AnaKalusugan Party List
STATEMENT OF REP. RAY FLORENCE REYES ON THE SONA OF PRESIDENT MARCOS JR.
The President was spot on when he enumerated what ails the healthcare system delivery in the country, and what needs to be done within his tenure.
By laying the policy groundwork for a push towards food supply stability in his maiden SONA, the Chief Executive can expect our full support for agricultural modernization and supply chain stabilization programs.
Indeed, the enactment of laws lowering the cost of food production by government subsidies and radical fiscal reforms on farm inputs to allow sustainability in this regard needs to be done with urgency.
We are one with him in the belief that Food Security is Health Security.
In support of this, ANAKALUSUGAN Party-list has filed the Zero Hunger Bill to augment the many other programs — such as the supplemental feeding programs being implemented by DepEd and DSWD, in line with the President’s policy direction.
We share his assertion that an increase in production will make food products affordable and therefore creating ease of access to nutritious food.
This will make enough headway in addressing hunger and malnutrition that the COVID-19 pandemic had made worse.
We are glad to know that the President sees urgency in bolstering the inoculation of vaccines and booster shots to our citizens to contain the rise in COVID-19 cases.
However, we urge the President to order the DOH to incentivize vaccination and intensify the administration of booster shots for the population.
This will prevent hospital overburdening, establish greater confidence among the more productive sectors, and open the economy further towards recovery and growth.
We fully support the call of the President to establish virology and vaccine institutes in the country.
This will make us less dependent on the benevolence of other countries when health emergencies visit our shores.
We also agree with the push for the increase in the capacity of our healthcare systems, primarily those that will address emerging health concerns, make it more agile and able to respond even in far flung areas of the country.
Thus, the passage of ANAKALUSUGAN Partylist’s Medical Reserve Corps bill, which will train then assign medical professionals to visit remote areas, is earnestly sought.
This SONA dictates the rhythm, speed and direction of the entire bureaucracy for the next six years.
With the quality of his Cabinet, we are confident that he will deliver, that we can recover, that we can weather the blows of this pandemic and whatever may come along under his presidency.
